US staging ‘fatal provocations’ against Russian forces in Syria

Washington is playing a dangerous game of encouraging terrorists in Syria to attack government forces and the Russian military, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. Moscow won’t leave aggressive US steps unanswered, but wants to overcome the political deadlock, he added.

In an interview with the London-based, Arabic-language Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, taken ahead of the visit of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to Moscow, Lavrov noted that the US-led coalition and the Syrian rebel forces they support consistently act in a way that helps Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and other terrorist groups.

“In some cases, these forces mount allegedly accidental strikes against the Syrian Armed Forces, after which Islamic State [banned in Russia] counterattacks. In other cases, they inspire other terrorists to attack strategic locations over which official Damascus has restored its legitimate authority, or to stage fatal provocations against our military personnel,” Lavrov said.

Washington is guided by “double standards” in Syria, the Russian foreign minister said, slamming the US for failing to acknowledge that there are no such things as bad or good terrorists.

“If you apply double standards, divide terrorists into ‘bad’ and ‘very bad,’ force others to enter the coalition on political motives, forgetting about the necessary UN sanction to approve these actions, then it’s hard to speak about the effectiveness of an anti-terror campaign,” he said.

Russia’s involvement in the campaign against ISIS in Syria aids not only Russia’s national security, but also regional stability, Lavrov said. He added that it is not enough to defeat terrorists on the ground to bring peace to embattled regions, noting the importance of diplomatic efforts.

“It’s impossible to eradicate terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa through military means only. We are deeply convinced about that. The advantage of our policy lies in that it is not self-interested and does not have a hidden agenda,” he said. rt.com

Turkey agrees to buy S-400 air defences from Russia

Turkey has signed a controversial deal with Russia to arm its forces with Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missiles. The € 2.14bn deal has sparked concern over Turkey’s increasingly closer ties with Russia and its recent souring of relations with the US and Europe. A deposit for the S-400 has been put down, but the deal is still to be finalised. The deal is Turkey’s first major arms purchase from Moscow and its most significant one from a non-NATO partner. euronews.com

Donald Trump expects Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump made it clear he expects Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine and reduce violence in Ukraine, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Tuesday.

“President Trump has made it very clear that he expects the Russian government to de-escalate violence in the Ukraine and return Crimea,” Spicer said at a daily news briefing. “At the same time, he fully expects to and wants to get along with Russia.”

The new tone is a departure from opinions Trump expressed last year on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. In an interview with ABC in July, Trump did not back away from a suggestion he had made earlier to recognize Russia’s claim on Crimea, CNN reported. “I’m going to take a look at it,” Trump said. “But you know, the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were.”

Creating some confusion, Trump also told ABC that Putin won’t invade Ukraine, despite the fact that the Russian leader had already done just that in 2014. “He’s not going into Ukraine, OK, just so you understand. He’s not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down,” Trump said. haaretz.com

Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov murdered

The fatal attack on Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, who was killed by a gunman on Monday, is “clearly a provocation” aimed at undermining both Russian-Turkish relations and the settling of the Syrian crisis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“This murder is clearly a provocation aimed at undermining the improvement and normalization of Russian-Turkish relations, as well as undermining the peace process in Syria promoted by Russia, Turkey, Iran and other countries interested in settling the conflict in Syria,” Putin said in a statement on Monday evening.

The “only response” to the attack that Moscow “should offer” is “stepping up the fight against terrorism,” the president added.

“The killers will feel it,” Putin said. rt.com

U.S. aiding ISIS & al-Qaeda, closer to war with Russia

Secretary of State John Kerry threatened on Wednesday to end all cooperation between the United States and Russia to stop Syria’s civil war, unless Russian and Syrian government attacks on Aleppo end. More than 250 people are believed to have been killed in the besieged city in the last week.

Kerry’s warning came in a telephone call Wednesday to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the State Department said, describing the latest U.S. ultimatum in Syria’s 5½-year conflict. Many have gone unfulfilled, including President Barack Obama’s declaration that the U.S. would take military action if Syrian President Bashar Assad crossed the “red line” of using chemical weapons.

It was unclear what effect Kerry’s words would have.

“The burden remains on Russia to stop this assault and allow humanitarian access to Aleppo and other areas in need,” Kerry told Lavrov, according to State Department spokesman John Kirby.

Kerry said the U.S. is preparing to “suspend U.S.-Russia bilateral engagement on Syria,” including talks on a possible counter-extremist partnership, “unless Russia takes immediate steps to end the assault on Aleppo and restore” a cease-fire. ap.org

NATO cmdr: Syria, Russia using migrant crisis as a ‘weapon’

When you are at fault on the political stage, step 1 is to blame your opponent in the hope that it will push them into a defensive position.

Top NATO General Philip Breedlove warned US lawmakers Tuesday that Russia is helping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad turn the refugee crisis into a “weapon” against the West.

…As though the US-led coalitions objective didn’t include the deliberate destabilization of countries in hopes of provoking regime change. The arming & training of terrorists in hopes of provoking regime change can not be allowed to be successful, the end must not justify the means, this is a disastrous policy & refugees are just a small part of the blowback created by it. This is a policy that can not continue, ISIS is just the latest byproduct of US foreign policy. When does this policy end? Before or after a nuclear world war? US led military interventions have been consistently disastrous producing the opposite of their stated objectives, ISIS are bad, US military adventurisum which is the source of ISIS’s rise is worse, ridiculous statements such as those made by Breedlove, further lead me to thinking that the US can not be trusted to be part of the solution in Syria.

In March 2011, Gaddafi warned that without unified and stable Libya there would be no one to control countless migrants from Africa and the Middle East from fleeing to Europe. Unlike Western leaders, he apparently understood that millions, not thousands will come, should Tripoli fall.

“There are millions of blacks who could come to the Mediterranean to cross to France and Italy, and Libya plays a role in security in the Mediterranean,” he told the France 24 television station.

Gaddafi’s son Saif, once considered the heir apparent and now on death row awaiting execution, echoed the sentiment in the same interview.

“Libya may become the Somalia of North Africa, of the Mediterranean. You will see the pirates in Sicily, in Crete, in Lampedusa. You will see millions of illegal immigrants. The terror will be next door,” he noted.

Another quote, attributed to Gaddafi, paints a vivid picture of what the late colonel expected to happen: “The Mediterranean will become a sea of chaos.” sputniknews.com

The 2012 Benghazi attack. – The indication is that the CIA had a gun running operation from Libya, to Turkey, then on to Syria. The reason for the covert operation would be to arm the most effective Syrian opposition group at that time, which was al-Nusra, al-Qaeda in Syria. Al-Qaeda in Iraq started to see al-Nusra as threat to their own power in the region, there was an internal power struggle, leading to the rise of ISIS as a seperate group that does not follow the leadership of Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became the leader of al-Qaeda after the death of Bin Laden.

Clinton won her encounter at the Benghazi hearings, but one important deception was exposed. The administration tried to mislead the American people about the attackers’ motives telegraph.co.uk

Obama moving towards U.S.-Russian coordination in Syria?

Amidst the hysteria of dyed in the wool warmongers, the Obama White House is approaching a rapprochement with Russia regarding the Syrian Civil War crisis. According to an article published by Fox News on Sept. 17,

“…the Obama administration plans to accept an offer from Russia for direct talks on its military buildup in Syria that U.S. officials believe is aimed at propping up Syrian President Bashar Assad.”

This offer, initiated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov — who has consistently been open to conferring with Western countries in foreign policy matters — was made to Secretary of State John Kerry earlier this week. Skull and Bones Kerry is showing unexpected goodwill in agreeing to hold talks between the US and Russia, saying he personally thought the idea was a good one. The report by Fox continued,

“Kerry said Lavrov had proposed a ‘military-to-military conversation and meeting in order to discuss the issue of precisely what will be done to de-conflict with respect to any potential risks that might be run and have a complete and clear understanding as to the road ahead and what the intentions are.’”[1]

The White House has been claiming to be “perplexed” by the recent Russian military buildup in Syria and these talks are an opportunity to have a clearer picture of the intentions of Russia. An Associated Press article published on Sept 16 quoted Secretary Kerry and reported the following,

“It is vital to avoid misunderstandings, miscalculations (and) not to put ourselves in a predicament where we are supposing something and the supposition is wrong.”

Nevertheless, Kerry is still demanding that Assad must be removed from power,

“In his call with Lavrov on Tuesday, his third in 10 days, Kerry said he sought clarity about Moscow’s moves and warned that Russian support for Assad ‘risks exacerbating and extending the conflict.’”[2]

The American public has been lulled into a fear-induced trance by the bankrupt news establishment relentlessly barking the groupthink mantra that Assad must be removed from power for any peace to come to the Middle East. Such a criteria for peace is exactly what would create power vacuum for ISIS to sweep in and destroy the Syrian state. This of course is the goal of ISIS czar John Allen and the putschist clique standing behind him that want to continue the wave of destabilizations in the Middle East and beyond which began with the color revolutions of the Arab Spring. tarpley.net
