Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that Israel is prepared to intervene in Syria to counteract the Iranian influence in the conflict. Moscow, which views Iran as key to resolving the crisis, said it will note Israeli interests.
When the two leaders met in Sochi on Wednesday, Netanyahu told Putin that any peace deal in Syria must entail the full withdrawal of any Iranian forces from the area.
“Iran is already well on its way to controlling Iraq, Yemen and to a large extent is already in practice in control of Lebanon,” Reuters quoted Netanyahu as saying. “We cannot forget for a single minute that Iran threatens every day to annihilate Israel.”
“Israel opposes Iran’s continued entrenchment in Syria. We will be sure to defend ourselves with all means against this and any threat.”
Iran supports Syrian President Bashar Assad in the civil war that has been gripping the country for six years. Israel considers the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah to be little more than a proxy of Tehran, and fears a Syrian government victory will further amplify Iranian influence at its borders and give Tehran access to the Mediterranean.
Israel publicly considers Iran an even bigger threat to its security than Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
“It is not an exaggeration to think that within a certain period of time, the Islamic State will lose its territorial footholds in Syria,”said Netanyahu, as quoted by Haaretz. “There will be a much better prospect for cutting the current civil war short and preventing a future war if Iran is not in Syria.”
“I made it clear to Putin that Iran’s establishing itself in Syria will not aid stability in the region, and I told him that we want to prevent a future war and therefore it is important to warn in advance.”
Israeli officials may be particularly concerned about an Iranian presence near the Golan Heights, a disputed territory between Israel and Syria, part of which is under Israeli occupation. In July, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire on Syrian positions in response to two stray shells landing on the Israeli-claimed side. rt.com
Op-ed: The outgoing US president’s irresponsibility is fed by the arrogance of Israeli leaders, who have managed to position the settlements high in the international consciousness just in time for the change of administration.
For many years, Barack Obama was known as a person endowed with emotionless “coolness” and presidential alienation. So why is it that on his last days in the White House he is suddenly running wild and trying to leave his mark on what he failed in the past few years?
Even more troubling is the following question: Why has Israel become the litmus test for Obama’s legacy? Why is the outgoing administration trying to set historical precedents—which it failed to bestow for such a long time—on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, of all issues? ynetnews.com
1. The Syria false flag chemical attack – The red line
Obama was provoked into proclaiming a red line on Syria, which invited Syria opposition seeking increased military action by the U.S., to turn the tide of the battle against Assad, to perform such attacks, the Israeli administration used the guise of ensuring Israels security to provoke Obama into drawing the red line, which undermined his administration when the U.S. failed to act, the UK rejected participation in U.S led strikes at the last minute, adding to the U.S’s reluctance to engage in a big overt war, as opposed to a largely covert war, predominantly via proxies, which was prefered by the nobel peace prize president, Putin proposed to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons, which lessoned the blow to the Obama administration, but Obama having to be bailed out by Putin still made him look like a weak leader on the global stage.
2. Netanyahu endorsed Mitt Romney against Obama
Director of the New Internationalism Project at IPS about Israel’s influence over US foreign policy and the issue of Palestinian statehood. The political TV advertisement featuring Binyamin Netanyahu and the slogan “The world needs American strength, not apologies” is likely to fuel claims that the Israeli prime minister is interfering in the US presidential election in support of Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
Israel allegedly spied on private negotiations between the US and Iran over the latter’s nuclear programme and passed on vital information to the US Congress in a bid to undermine the talks, according to a report published on 23 March.
According to a report released by The Wall Street Journal, senior White House officials have been cited as claiming the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu desperately tried to seek inside information on the closed-door talks to be able to lobby support against the nuclear deal. ibtimes.co.uk
4. Attempted coup.
A retired U.S. general; Paul E. Vallely who is an Israeli asset, attempted to stage a military coup against Obama. He stated Obama should be held accountable for his sympathies for the Muslim Brotherhood, in particular and his actions regarding the Benghazi tragedy, “Obama should be arrested for this treasonous activity”. It is thought that Obama was dragging his feet on the Syria war, & not giving the Israeli’s the big war they desired, to destroy Israels regional enemies, particularly the Syrian Army, & Hezbollah, as a step towards war with Iran, such a war would draw in China & Russia leading to a world war.
5. Israel undermines administration; Taking U.S. weapons with out approval.
Israel reportedly secured weapons shipments directly from the United States military without the Obama administration approving the deal.
On July 20, days after Israel began its ground invasion in Gaza, Israel requested and received a shipment of munitions from the Pentagon, according to the Wall Street Journal.
While Defense Department officials say both sides followed established protocol, the Journal reported that White House officials were upset that the military did not get White House approval before sending the shipment. The request came as the U.S. urged Israeli restraint in its Gaza operation, and days before Israel rebuffed a cease-fire proposal from Secretary of State John Kerry on July 25.

“Is Israel really just defending itself, or is the Zionist state’s bombardment of Gaza a pre-meditated war crime?
Israel has killed over ten times more Palestinians in the past week alone than Hamas rockets have killed Israelis in the last 13 years.”
November 5, 2013 – Alex Jones promotes Paul E. Vallely. Vallely is a retired US Army Major General and senior military analyst for Fox News.
Vallely is also a supporter of the Jerusalem Summit organization and an advocate of the organization’s proposal to “relocate”/”resettle” Palestine and the Palestinian people to surrounding Arab countries as a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and to bring about the organization’s belief “that one of the objectives of Israel’s divinely-inspired rebirth is to make it the center of the new unity of the nations, which will lead to an era of peace and prosperity, foretold by the Prophets.

A military court on Wednesday convicted an Israeli soldier of manslaughter for shooting a Palestinian assailant in the head as he lay wounded on the ground, laying down a decisive marker in a case that has polarized Israelis and rocked the pedestal on which the military normally stands.
With the 50th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank approaching, the highly charged trial fueled a debate about military ethics and the place of the army in Israeli society. It became as much about the military’s value system as the conduct of the soldier, Sgt. Elor Azaria.
The military’s rules make clear that assailants must be quickly incapacitated, but that once neutralized, they should not be killed. But critics and rights groups have accused Israeli soldiers and police officers of being quick to pull the trigger, particularly in response to a recent spate of deadly stabbings, shootings and car attacks by Palestinians.
Many in Israel, a country where military service is a part of national identity, called for backing up young soldiers sent on dangerous missions. They said that Sergeant Azaria had been in an impossible situation and that the deck had been stacked against him, since an acquittal would have put his commanders in a bad light. nytimes.com
This tweet from Donald Trump this morning is zinging around the internet.
Obviously Trump is a clown but there’s an element of truth in what he says (as there was when he said that Sheldon Adelson would own Marco Rubio). Hillary is all for human rights and openness here in the United States, but she is willing to give a far-right wing government anything it wants in Israel, and that’s a lot worse than President Obama’s position. She’s going to patch things up with Netanyahu immediately. And she makes these pronouncements out of craven allegiance to Haim Saban, for whom she lately penned an anti-boycott letter, and gave a disturbingly-pro-Israel speech, in which she bragged that she and Israel were born within months of one another. mondoweiss.net
Islamic State terrorists in Syria received all necessary materials to produce deadly sarin gas via Turkey, Turkish MP Eren Erdem has told RT, insisting there are grounds to believe a cover up has taken place.
The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) member, Erdem, brought up the issue for public discussion in parliament last week, citing evidence from an abruptly-closed criminal case. He accused Ankara of failing to investigate Turkish supply routes used to provide terrorists with toxic sarin gas ingredients.
“There is data in this indictment. Chemical weapon materials are being brought to Turkey and being put together in Syria in camps of ISIS which was known as Iraqi Al Qaeda during that time,” Erdem told RT. rt.com
I think the red line for Syria intervention, which invited a false flag chemical attack, by those in opposition to the Syrian government, hoping for military intervention, were brought about by pressure on the US by the Israeli government under the guise of ensuring Israel’s security. Basically I think Obama was tricked by Netanyahu into creating a pretext for a more overt war in Syria, an escalation Obama hoped to avoid. MSM reports indicate the contrary such as Israel Helped Obama Skirt ‘Red Line’ on Syria.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly seeking US recognition of Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights due to the Syrian conflict. Netanyahu allegedly wanted a “different thinking” regarding the issue during talks with Barack Obama.
The possibility of the Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights in 1981 being recognized was raised during Netanyahu’s meeting with US President Obama, according to Haaretz sources close to the discussions. The publication mentioned that Netanyahu believes the absence of a functioning Syrian government “allows for different thinking” concerning the future status of the strategically important area.
Netanyahu also reportedly said he was doubtful that peace talks taking place in Vienna between the world powers and various Syrian fractions involved in the war would result in peace. During the meeting, Netanyahu also clarified Israel’s red lines in regards to Syria. rt.com
Binyamin Netanyahu has met the US secretary of state, John Kerry, in Berlin amid a continuing storm of criticism over remarks by the Israeli prime minister claiming that the Palestinian grand mufti of Jerusalem had suggested the genocide of the Jews to Adolf Hitler.
Although Netanyahu tried to row back on his remarks that Hitler had been persuaded to initiate the Holocaust by the second world war Palestinian leader – made in a speech on Tuesday to the World Zionist Congress – historians and media commentators continued to weigh in, accusing him of everything from fabrication to helping the cause of Holocaust deniers. theguardian.com
Netanyahu’s meeting with Putin focused mainly on the Israel’s northern border, with fears of Hezbollah attaining lethal weapons in Syria with help from Iran.
Israel and Russia agreed to a create mechanism to prevent accidental confrontation between their forces in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said following a meeting on the outskirts of Moscow Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Netanyahu, in a phone briefing with Israeli diplomatic reporters, said that the meeting was devoted to the complicated situation on Israel’s northern border.
“I made clear our policy to try to prevent through various means the transfer of lethal weapons from Syria to Hezbollah, which is actually done at the direction of Iran,” Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu said that the purpose of the meeting was to prevent “misunderstandings” between IDF and Russian forces. “We established a mechanism to prevent those misunderstandings,” he said, without elaborating. “This is something very important for Israel’s security. jpost.com
