Trump risks ‘destroying peace hopes of Israelis & Palestinians’

Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has drawn an angry and despairing response from global and regional leaders – who warned it would destroy the peace process, strengthen extremists and weaken the standing of the US in the world.

In an address to reporters moments after the US president had finished speaking, the UN secretary general António Guterres said he opposed “any unilateral measures that would jeopardise the prospect of peace for Israelis and Palestinians”.

“In this moment of great anxiety, I want to make it clear – there is no alternative to the two-state solution,” Guterres said. “There is no plan B.”

Earlier on Wednesday Pope Francis had issued a heartfelt plea to Trump to respect the status quo of the city, and to conform with UN resolutions. The pope told thousands of people at his general audience: “I cannot keep quiet about my deep worry about the situation that has been created in the last few days.” theguardian.com

“Iran must withdraw from Syria or Israel will ‘defend itself’”

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that Israel is prepared to intervene in Syria to counteract the Iranian influence in the conflict. Moscow, which views Iran as key to resolving the crisis, said it will note Israeli interests.

When the two leaders met in Sochi on Wednesday, Netanyahu told Putin that any peace deal in Syria must entail the full withdrawal of any Iranian forces from the area.

“Iran is already well on its way to controlling Iraq, Yemen and to a large extent is already in practice in control of Lebanon,” Reuters quoted Netanyahu as saying. “We cannot forget for a single minute that Iran threatens every day to annihilate Israel.”

“Israel opposes Iran’s continued entrenchment in Syria. We will be sure to defend ourselves with all means against this and any threat.”

Iran supports Syrian President Bashar Assad in the civil war that has been gripping the country for six years. Israel considers the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah to be little more than a proxy of Tehran, and fears a Syrian government victory will further amplify Iranian influence at its borders and give Tehran access to the Mediterranean.

Israel publicly considers Iran an even bigger threat to its security than Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

“It is not an exaggeration to think that within a certain period of time, the Islamic State will lose its territorial footholds in Syria,”said Netanyahu, as quoted by Haaretz. “There will be a much better prospect for cutting the current civil war short and preventing a future war if Iran is not in Syria.”

“I made it clear to Putin that Iran’s establishing itself in Syria will not aid stability in the region, and I told him that we want to prevent a future war and therefore it is important to warn in advance.”

Israeli officials may be particularly concerned about an Iranian presence near the Golan Heights, a disputed territory between Israel and Syria, part of which is under Israeli occupation. In July, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire on Syrian positions in response to two stray shells landing on the Israeli-claimed side. rt.com

Daughter of U.S. envoy Friedman immigrates to Israel

The daughter of the American ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, has immigrated to Israel and taken Israeli citizenship.

The 24-year-old Talia Friedman arrived at Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday on a charter flight carrying over 200 new immigrants from North America and was greeted by her father.

Friedman, President Donald Trump’s former bankruptcy attorney, was appointed ambassador earlier this year. His appointment was opposed by Democrats and some Jewish groups because of donations to Israeli settlements, opposition to Palestinian statehood and vocal support for hard-line Israeli government positions.

Friedman told Israeli media that he was proud of his daughter. He said that “she loves Israel, we all love Israel. Our whole family loves Israel.”

Friedman is a member of Trump’s team spearheading efforts to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. dailymail.co.uk

Israeli regime strikes targets in Syria for 2nd day

The Israeli military on Sunday said it attacked a series of targets belonging to the Syrian military, after several projectiles from neighboring Syria landed in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights for a second day.

The military said it targeted two Syrian artillery positions and an ammunitions truck. There were no immediate reports of casualties. But as an added precaution, the military instructed Israeli civilians from gathering in open areas in the border area.

It was the second straight day that Israel responded to what it has described as errant fire from Syria. Israel has tried to stay out of the six-year civil war in Syria and refrained from taking sides, but has responded to spillover fire on numerous occasions.

Israel also is believed to have carried out airstrikes on suspected weapons shipments to its archenemy Hezbollah, whose fighters are in Syria backing government forces.

“Our policy is clear: We will not tolerate any spillover or trickle whatsoever — neither mortars nor rockets, from any front,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday. “We will respond strongly to any attack on our territory or our citizens.”

He also said Israel views “with utmost gravity” Iranian attempts to gain a foothold in Syria or to provide advanced weapons to Hezbollah, its Lebanese proxy.

In Saturday’s fighting, Israeli aircraft struck various positions, destroying two tanks, in response to more than 10 projectiles that landed in its territory, the military said.

Syrian state media said a number of people were killed and, citing the Syrian military command, said five soldiers were wounded.

Israel supplies ISIS with Weapons, Logistics & Medicine

Syrian President Bashar Assad has accused Israel of lending support to terrorist factions operating in the war-plagued country, saying Israelis provide armed groups with weapons, logistic support and medical assistance.

Israel participates in the war in Syria in various forms, which include using weapons against Syrian army positions and directly supporting terrorist groups which fight against government troops, Assad told Venezuelan Telesur broadcaster.

“It is playing this role in different forms; first, by direct aggression, particularly by using warplanes, artillery, or missiles against Syrian Army positions. Second, it is supporting terrorists in two ways: first by providing direct support in the form of weapons, and second by providing logistic support, i.e. allowing them to conduct military exercises in the areas it controls. It also provides them with medical assistance in its hospitals,” Assad said, as quoted by Sana news agency.

According to Assad, there is evidence published in the internet which shows Israel’s role in supporting terrorist groups in Syria.

Earlier in the day, a large explosion was reported near the international airport in Damascus. Initial reports said the explosion was the result of an Israeli airstrike on a Hezbollah supply hub.

Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz said the strike is in line with Israel’s policy of targeting Hezbollah’s arms deliveries in Syria, but stopped short of saying Israel was responsible for the strikes. Hezbollah was established in the 1980s in Lebanon and is a designated terrorist organization in Israel, the United States and other nations.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has refused to comment on the incident.

Tensions between Israel and Syria regularly escalate to hostility, with IDF planes striking targets in Syria in response to cross-border fire incidents and attacking groups, which Israel deems hostile, inside the country. macedoniaonline.eu

Ex-defense minister says IS ‘apologized’ to Israel for clash

Former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon on Saturday said the Islamic State terrorist group in the Syrian Golan Heights “apologized” for attacking an Israeli unit.

“There was one case recently where Daesh opened fire and apologized,” Ya’alon said, using the terror group’s Arabic nickname.

This was an apparent reference to a clash that took place near the Syrian border last November, in which IDF troops exchanged fire with members of the Islamic State affiliate. After a brief gun battle, the Israeli military attacked the terrorist group with airstrikes and tank fire, killing four of them.

Israel and much of the Western world considers the Islamic State affiliate in the Syrian Golan Heights, known as the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army, to be a terrorist group. Communication with them is technically illegal under Israeli law, constituting contact with an enemy agent. timesofisrael.com

Israeli strike hits military site near Damascus airport

An Israeli missile strike has caused a large explosion and fire at a military site near Damascus international airport, Syrian state media report.

A fuel tank and warehouses were damaged, the Sana news agency said.

But Syrian rebel sources said an arms depot run by Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, which is fighting in Syria as an ally of the government, was hit.

Israel said the explosion was “consistent” with its policy to prevent Iran smuggling weapons to Hezbollah.

But it stopped short of confirming it was responsible.

Israel regards Hezbollah, and its key backer Iran, as its biggest threat. It went to war with Hezbollah in 2006 and the group has grown considerably more powerful since then. bbc.co.uk

Israeli regime threatens to destroy Syrian air defenses

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has warned Syria that Israel will destroy its air defense system if Syria fires an anti-aircraft missile at Israeli aircraft again. Speaking on Israel public radio Sunday morning, Liberman said, “The next time the Syrians use their air defense systems against our airplanes, we will destroy all of them without thinking twice.”

His threat comes after Syria fired anti-aircraft missiles at Israeli military jets overnight Thursday into Friday.
The Syrian military said the jets struck a military site near Palmyra, while Israel says they targeted a weapons shipment to Iran-backed Hezbollah. Syria claims their missiles downed one Israeli jet and hit another, which Israel rejected as “absolutely untrue.”

“Our central problem, and this above and beyond all of the other issues, is the transfer of advanced weapons from Syria to Lebanon,” Liberman said.”Every time we identify a transfer like this, we will work to prevent the transfer of game-changing weapons. On this issue there will not be any compromise,” the outspoken Defense Minister added. Liberman has not shied away from threatening rhetoric since taking over the Defense Ministry last year.

Rising tensions

Friday’s encounter was the most serious clash between Israel and Syria since the start of the Syrian civil war six years ago. Tension between the two countries de-escalated as the conflict progressed, but the threats have increased between the two countries in recent months., along with Israel’s reported strikes. An airstrike near Palmyra would be one of the deepest inside Syria since the beginning of the fighting. cnn.com

Netanyahu to Putin: Israeli airstrikes in Syria will continue

Does Britain First put Israel before British interests?

Britain First has nothing but praise for Israel, in particular; Netanyahu, who they state is; “The only leader to mention the plight of the Christians of the Middle East”. In 2015 when the above post was made, Christian churches were being burnt down in Israel, supported by extremists such as Benzi Gopstein. Burning of Christian churches in Israel justified, far-Right Jewish leader says. There is no mention of this by Britain First, an organization that claims to support Christians.

Britain First has no problem criticizing Saudi Arabia with such articles as; “Saudi Arabia and Islamic State: A comparison”, something they fail to mention is that Israel is allied with Saudi Arabia against Iran, & Iranian allies. ISIS were created as a result of Israel-Saudi driven foreign policy, weapons were dumped on dubious Islamist groups, who were fighting against the Assad government, & Hezbollah, the Israeli driven plan was to weaken or destroy Iran’s allies, before war with Iran. In this war Syrian Christians would be considered acceptable collateral damage.

“Saudi Arabia recognizes that Israel is an ally rather than an enemy because of the two principal threats that threaten them, Iran and Daesh,” Netanyahu told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Britain is not a Christian country, however Christianity is a large part of British heritage, I can understand British Christians wanting to aid those who share similar ideals to their own. But blind support for Israel is evidently not the best option to serve their interests.

Israel firster Zionist Christians are just as much of a threat to British sovereignty, as the pro-Islamist assets of Qatar & Saudi Arabia, they are hand in hand aligned in the same objective in the middle east. An objective which is counter to British interests, aiding the mujahideen in Afghanistan led to the rise of al-Qaeda, aiding the advance of Syria rebels has led to the rise of ISIS, significantly weakening global stability &, security.
